Title

When should one make Sajdah Sahw?

Question

AssalamuAlaikum.

Mufti Saheb, after reciting Surah Fatihah in Salah sometimes I forget that I must recite other Surah and I untie my hands as if I’m going to Rukuu, but even before I bow, I remember and I tie my hands again and recite another Surah.

Do I have to make Sajdah Sahw for that?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

In principle, Sajda Sahw becomes compulsory when one delays a Waajib act for the duration of 15 letters (Subhaanallahil Adhim).

In the above situation, it will not be Waajib for you to make Sajda Sahw if you tied your hands before such duration.
