Reciting Durood and Bismillah before Adhaan

Question

Assalamu alaikum

One of our masjid muadhins has a habit of reading bismillah audibly before giving adhan on the loudspeaker. Recently he has also started reciting durood after bismillah then gives adhan. The bismillah and durood is loud and clear enough to be heard on the speaker and reciever system. Is this a good practice? My concern is that other muadhins may also start doing this. Please advise.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is incorrect to recite Durood before the Adhaan. [i]

The muadhin may recite Bismillah silently before giving the Adhaan.

اذان سے قبل و بعد جس انداز سے درود و سلام پڑھنے کا رواج ہے، یہ بدعت ہے

اذان سےپہلے بلند آواز کے ساتھ درود و سلام پڑھنا کسی حدیث  یا صحابہ کرام کے کسی عمل سے ثابت نہیں ہے، لہذا اس کو زیادہ ثواب کا موجب سمجھ کر کرنا یا اس کی پابندی کرنا بدعت ہے.
