Title

Is it permissible for a married/unmarried person to wear colored contact lenses?

Question

Is it permissible for a married/unmarried person to wear colored contact lenses?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

In principle, it is permissible for a female to wear colored contact lenses on the following conditions:

1. An optometrist/eye specialist prescribes the use of colored contact lenses for medical purposes.

2. The lenses are not worn to deceive or for Fitnah. For example, a woman with black eyes wears grey colored contact lenses with the intention of deceiving men who propose to marry her. A woman who wears colored contact lenses with the intention of luring and attracting the attention of Ghair- Mahram men is a clear example of Fitnah.

It is impermissible for men to wear colored contact lenses unless it is done for medical reasons.[1]
