Title

Is there any specific days for cutting nails?

Question

assalamu alaikum, i would just like to know what the issue is with cutting nails on specific days and cutting nails at night. i have been told we cannot cut nails on a tuesday and wednesday. please can you advise me further on this.

Answer

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Nothing has been established about the method or time in which to pare one’s nails.[1] One can pare the nails whenever there is a need. To pare the nails on a Tuesday or Wednesday or at night is permissible. It is however advisable to pare the nails on a Friday.

قِيلَ: وَلَمْ يَثْبُتْ فِي قَصِّ الظُّفُرِ يَوْمَ الْخَمِيسِ حَدِيثٌ، بَلْ كَيْفَ مَا احْتَاجَ إِلَيْهِ، وَلَمْ يَثْبُتْ فِي كَيْفِيَّتِهِ، وَلَا فِي تَعْيِينِ يَوْمٍ لَهُ شَيْءٌ، وَمَا يُعْزَى مِنَ النَّظْمِ فِي ذَلِكَ لِعَلِيٍّ أَوْ غَيْرِهِ بَاطِلٌ (جمع الوسائل في شرح الشمائل، ج1ص 213، مصطفى البابي الحلبي)
