Title

Do I have to get any feeling or see a dream after Istikhārah?

Question

Assalāmualaikum.  We wanted to start a business and started off by reading Istikhārah.  My husband first read but he did not get any feelings or dreams, neither good nor bad.  I then started reading and I also did not get any feelings or dreams.  Does this mean that we have to abandon the idea or did we not read it properly.

Answer

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

The term Istikhārah means to seek Khair and goodness from Allāh Ta’ālā.  When an individual makes Istikhārah, Allāh Ta’ālā will put Khair and goodness in whatever decision he/she makes.  It is not necessary that one has any inclinations or sees a dream after performing Istikhārah.  Apply your mind honestly on the issue.  The thought in one’s mind and feeling will be guidance from Allāh.  If you still doubt on the issue, seek the wise counsel of someone you have confidence in.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
