Title

Clarification of the Ibarah mentioned in Behashti Zewar

Question

If the hair of the eyebrow, beard, or moustache is so thick that the skin cannot be seen, then in such case it is Wājib to wash that hair which falls within the boundaries of the face. It is not Wājib to wash the hair that is beyond the boundaries of the face.

Please clarify whether the washing is required (Wājib) of the hair which lies within the face or the full length of hair, which is the root that falls within the facial limit.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

The statement in reference is an error by the translator.[1]

The original statement is mentioned in the book Behashti Gūhar and not in Behashti Zewar.[2]

The translation of Behashti Zewar is a combination of two books Behashti Zewar and Behashti Gūhar.

Nevertheless, the issue on hand is if the skin can be seen through the hair, then it is Wājib (compulsory) to wash the hair including the skin. However, if the skin cannot be seen, then to wash the skin is not compulsory.[3]
