Title

Why are Muslims not allowed to wear shoes in the house?

Question

Why are Muslims not allowed to wear shoes in the house?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is not prohibited to wear shoes in the house.

However, Sharīah promotes and emphasizes on cleanliness as it is narrated in the Hadith:

Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam Said: “purity is half of Imān”.[1]

It is advisable for one to make sure that the shoes are clean from dirt and filth before entering the house.
