Question

I have read opposing views about the actual time that Maghrib Salaah should be performed.  Alhamdulillah I am a Sunni Muslim and have some confusion as to whether Maghrib Salaah should be performed once the disk of the sun sets below the horizon, resulting in still having some redness in the sky.  Or, should one wait until the redness has disappeared?  This could mean waiting a further, 10-15 minutes after the adhaan.

I would appreciate it if you could please clarify the confusion and provide any hadith if possible.

The Maghrib Salah should be performed when the disk of the sun has disappeared below the horizon. It is makrooh to delay the Maghrib Salah unless one has a valid shar’i excuse or the sky is so cloudy that it makes it difficult to ensure that the sun has indeed set.
