Title

Does consuming Haraam invalidate the Nikah

Question

If, after unknowingly consuming haram (was conidered halaal, but due to doubt is considered haraam), will a Nikkah still be accepted in the eyes of Allah?. The time period between the consumption and the Nikkah is 30 days.

Answer

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

To consume Haraam (unlawful) food is a major sin. Issues regarding Halaal and Haraam (lawful and unlawful) foods are very pertinent and should not be treated lightly. One morsel of Haraam food may result in a person’s Ibaadah and Duas not being accepted by Allah Ta’ala. Care should also be taken in abstaining from doubtful foods and outlets, lest one may transgress and indulge in Haraam.

عن أبي هريرة قالقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يا أيها الناس إن الله طيب لا يقبل إلا طيبا وإن الله أمر المؤمنين بما أمر به المرسلين فقال{ يا أيها الرسل كلوا من الطيبات واعملوا صالحا إني بما تعملون عليم }وقال{ يا أيها الذين آمنوا كلوا من طيبات ما رزقناكم }

Sincere Tawbah (repentance) should be made and in future enquiries should be made before purchasing or consuming anything by contacting the local Halaal bodies.

The validity of the nikaah will not be affected by the consumption of Haraam with the assumption of it being Halaal.

And Allah knows best
