Question

I would like to know what should we do with the Islamic newsletters after we have read it.Some of these newsletters contain Quranic verses and others Hadith. Also i would like to know that when people talk about the azaab of the qabar is it for your sins that you paying or is it that if you do not answer the three questions correctly that will be asked by Munkir and Nakir. If the punishment of the grave is for our sins then why do we have account for our sins again on the day of judgement. Please clarify.Salim

Answer

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

1)      You should wrap the literature in a cloth and bury it in an isolated place. Furthermore, when burying it you should opt for the lahd (charnel vault with a niche in the lateral wall) grave, so that no disrespect is shown by throwing sand on it.

2)      The answering of the questions in the grave will depend on the actions of a person. If a person was accustomed to a life of sin, he will be incapable of answering the questions posed by Munkar and Nakir. On the contrary if a person led a righteous life, Allah will divinely inspire him with the correct answers. Many proofs explaining this are found in Tafseer Ibn Katheer (4/496-507 Dar Taiba).

The punishment of the grave merely signifies the beginning of a person’s punishment which will be resumed again on the day of Qiyamah. It does not mean that a person will be punished twice.
