Question

Asalamualaikum,

I am a 24 year old Sunni female. I have been getting know a 24 year old Sunni male who is 6 months older than me. We have agreed that we wish to marry each other. I do not want to marry any other man. My father died a few years ago but I have my mother who I live with. My mother is happy that this man will be a good match and inshallah we are compatible. However his mother does not agree and does not want her son to marry me. We have tried to pursuade his mother and father but they do not agree. We both want to marry each other and dont want to marry anyone else. We know inshallah that we can be happy and live with each other. My mother has agreed to this marriage and this has been going on for over 18 months now and his family still wont agree. I would like to know that with my mother's blessing and even without his family's blessing can we get married and inshallah ask an imam to proceed with a nikah? Then inshallah once we get married his mother can accept me in the future. Please can I have a response as soon as possible. This has been ongoing for so long I would like to get married asap. Asalamualaikum
