Title

Is it compulsory to give hakeka meat to relatives and poor people

Question

Is it compulsory to give hakeka meat to relatives and poor people or can i eat all the meat without givining anyone

Answer

Performing the ‘Aqīqah is itself something permissible and not compulsory; therefore, giving the meat of ‘Aqīqah is not compulsory. However, if a person chooses to perform the ‘Aqīqah, it would be preferable for him to share the meat with the poor and one’s relatives as a good omen for the child to be generous when he grows older. If you choose not to give away the meat or to not even perform the ‘Aqīqah at all, you will not be sinful.
