i have a friend who is a Doctor as well as an Aalim.
i sent him this fatwa and this was his reply:
ASA,
Subhaan Allah! very brief reply to a question.
point 1. urine contains urea but it also contains a lot more compounds (urea is just a by-product)- therefore how can urea be najas? Urine does not equal urea!
point 2. urine is produced as a liquid released from the urinary tract, one of the sabalain, hence breaks the wudhu and fil-ain is najs, but urea of creams etc. is synthesised in a lab through a chemical reaction and has nothing to do with bodily parts.
point 3. Even if it was najs it wouldnt be considered haraam to place urine on ones body. As long as one was careful of the conditions of taharah of ones body before salat.
point 4. If there was no alternative you can even drink urine if recommended by a doctor as a form of therapy for an illness.
This fatwa doesnt make sense to me! As far as I see things there is no reason not to use urea in creams / lotions and for definite there is no actual fiqh text that specificies as urea being najas but rather urine- both are different things.
Maybe Mufti saab got these confused and thought they were the same.
Allah Knows best!
WS
1. Could you please clarify the matter and explain in detail why & how Urea is impure.
2. Also if it is impure and there is no alternative, then what is the ruling. Obviously the matter is not of life and death but the Deen is easy.
Jazakallah, may Allah Almighty reward you for your sincere efforts.
Assalaaam.
