Title

1. Can I keep my son's name as Qasim... 2. Is saying only Azan in the new born's ear is the sunnat and saying Iqamat is not sunnat.... 3. If it is suspected that there could be the effect of Nazar on the baby..than what is the solution how can I get it cured.

Question

Please advise me on following queries.

1)Can I keep my son's name as Qasim... as some one said that there is hadith that you can keep the name of Prophet (PBHU) but can not take his kunniyat.
2) Is saying only Azan in the new born's ear is the sunnat and saying Iqamat is not sunnat.Please can you provide reference in this regard.
3) If it is suspected that there could be the effect of Nazar on the baby..than what is the solution how can I get it cured.

Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatoh

1)      It is permissible to keep the name Qasim. The narration in reference is abrogated.

المحيط البرهاني للإمام برهان الدين ابن مازة - (ج 8 / ص 96) المجلس العلمي

ولا بأس بأن يكنى بكنية رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ، والذي روي عن النبي عليه السلام أنه قال: «سموا باسمي، ولا تكنوا بكنيتي»، فقد قيل: إنه منسوخ، وروي عن علي بن أبي طالب رضي الله عنه: أنه سمى ابنه محمد وهو ابن الحنفية، وكناه أبو القاسم وقد كان استأذن منه. وعن عائشة رضي الله عنها: أن امرأة قالت لرسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : إني ولدت غلاماً فسميته محمداً وكنيته أبا القاسم، فذكر لي أنك تكره ذلك، فقال: «ما الذي حرم كنيتي وأحل اسمي» أو «ما الذي حلَّ اسمي، وحرم كنيتي»، وعن محمد: أن من سمي باسم رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم أكره أن يكنى بكنيته، ذكره في الكشف.

2)      It is masnoon to say the adhan in the right ear and iqamah in the left ear of a new born child. (Ahsanul Fatawa 2/276 H. M. Saeed)

3)      We advise you to contact a reliable amil in this regard.
