Title

Please Clarify if the prophet (saw) wore a green turban or not!

Question

Fatwa #  1274  from Other Country/Island

Assalamualaikum

In reference to Fatwa number 1274, you stated that  "Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) had a black, white and green
Amaamah (Ibid) "

but in another fatwa you stated that "Nabi [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] never wore a green turban. (Sha-aabeeba al-Ghamaama fiy Tahqeeq Mas-alah al-Imaamah pg.59; Basaair)"

I do understand that in Sharia a Mufti is allowed to change his view. (Umar bin khattab: this is upon what we judged previously and this is upon what we judge now)

Please Clarify if the prophet (saw) wore a green turban or not!

Jazakallah

Answer

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatoh

We are unaware of any narration indicating that the Prophet of Allāh (Sallallāhu ‘Alayhi Wasallam) ever wore a green turban. On the contrary, Shaykh Al-Kattānī in his “Al-Di’āma” writes:

“Many questions have been raised regarding the green turban; did the Prophet of Allāh (Sallallāhu ‘Alayhi Wasallam) ever wore a green turban. The answer is, Shihāb mentions in his commentary on Al-Shifā’ which indicates the Prophet of Allāh (Sallallāhu ‘Alayhi Wasallam) never wore a green turban.”

Therefore, we cannot confirm the Prophet of Allāh (Sallallāhu ‘Alayhi Wasallam) ever wore a green turban.
