Question

In a qasidah burdah i recently went to they stood up in the middle for salaam to nabi Sallalawhualalayhiwasalaam Is this bidat and  Is there anything wrong in holding gas so that one can hold on to wudhu due to laziness.

Answer

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

Respect and honour for Nabi صلى الله عليه و سلم is in following his sunnah. Standing up whilst reciting durood or salam is foreign to the teachings of Islam. Therefore, it will be considered as an innovation. If one stands up with the belief that Nabi صلى الله عليه و سلم is present, then this will be shirk.

It is undesirable to hold in gas in order to keep ones wudhu. It is also makrooh to perform salah whilst holding gas.

Consider the following Hadeeth:

Nabi صلى الله عليه و سلم said: Should I not inform you of such deeds by virtue of which Allah Ta'ala forgives sins and raises ones ranks? Sahaba رضي الله عنهم replied Why not O messenger of Allah. Nabi صلى الله عليه و سلم replied: These acts are: making complete wudhu in unfavourable conditions, taking many steps to the masjid and waiting for one salah after the other.

And Allah knows best
