Answer

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatoh

According to the Hanafi Mazhab, Zakaat is waajib on all such gold and silver jewellery in one’s possession that exceeds the amount of nisaab (i.e. 612.35 grams of silver or 87.479 grams of gold).

(Bahishti Zewar (English Translation) Vol.1 Pg.298 – Zam Zam Publishers)

It is also proven through Ahadith that Zakaat is waajib on gold and silver jewellery.

عن أم سلمة قالت كنت ألبس أوضاحا من ذهب فقلت يا رسول الله أكنز هو فقال « ما بلغ أن تؤدى زكاته فزكى فليس بكنز ».  (أبو داؤد)

It has been reported on the authority of Ummi Salamah (Radhiyallahu Anha) that she said, “I used to wear a kind of jewellery made out of gold. I asked Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) whether it will be regarded as a treasure. Upon this Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) replied, “Zakaat will be compulsory on whatever exceeds the nisaab of Zakaat and it will not be regarded as a treasure.”” (Abu Dawood)
